Table Tuesday - 2/6/24
8 months ago – Tue, Feb 06, 2024 at 11:40:10 AM

Dungeoneers,

Iiiiiiiit's Table Tuesday

We're jumping in and giving you the power to help shape the final content of our upcoming tables in the Catalysts book. Your feedback and votes are instrumental in bringing this project to life, and we're excited to involve you directly.

But first, let's take a quick look at the entire range of tables found in Catalysts, designed to complicate your dungeons with risks and rewards:

  • Room Features: Spice up your dungeons or add flavor to existing rooms with a variety of features.
  • Dungeon Hazards: From mild inconveniences to deadly traps, these hazards add a layer of unpredictability.
  • Strange Inhabitants: Encounter anthropomorphic creatures or unique characters inspired by animal traits.
  • Ingredient Words: A resource for alchemists to find the necessary components for their concoctions.
  • Monuments & Statues: Give dungeons history and an interactive exploration aspect with these elements.
  • Abandoned Campsites: Discover remnants of previous adventurers, ranging from mundane to magical.
  • Monster Traits: Necromancers summon skeletons with retained abilities, adding a twist to encounters.

Now, for Table Tuesday, we're asking for your vote on several entries for Room Features and Dungeon Hazards. Your choices will help determine the most exciting and engaging content for everyone involved.

Participating is easy (note you must be a backer to vote!): Simply cast your vote by commenting below with which number you think should go in the book!

BUT, no matter how much you might like them all, you can only choose one.

Every vote, comment, and suggestion brings us closer to finalizing a book that we all can be proud of. Stay tuned for the results and more opportunities to shape Catalysts. Your support has been the cornerstone of this project.

Monster Monday - 2/5/24
9 months ago – Mon, Feb 05, 2024 at 09:21:06 AM

Dungeoneers,

One of the most annoying things as a GM is looking at a stat block and realizing you need to have a photographic memory to be able to effectively run the thing. Oodles of spells, a dense pack of features and natural abilities, and information that is implied but not specifically listed are all but a few of the annoyances that come with these phone-book sized stat blocks.

In Dungeoneering, I looked back at the roots of the hobby and tried to simplify from there. For the GM, there's only ever seven stats to keep track of:

  • Attack (if a goblin has 3 Attack, it must roll a 3 or lower to hit a character).
  • Evasion (if a goblin has 2 Evasion, that is the lowest number a character can roll to hit it. Rolling exactly a monster's evasion score results in a critical hit).
  • HP (self-explanatory)

And then the four ability modifiers (Might, Intellect, Agility, and Favor). Sometimes a monster has a weapon (weapons do static damage on a hit, meaning a sword always does 3 damage) or special features, but those are tersely describes in the stat block as well.

This is meant to make monsters very easy to create and run on the fly, without having to do a ton of research ahead of time.

As an example, let's take a look at...

Update 3: Embroidered Patch Now Available in Add-Ons
9 months ago – Sat, Feb 03, 2024 at 11:37:34 AM

Dungeoneers,

A big thank you to those who have backed so far - you'll all be receiving the embroidered patch for free due to you backing within the first 48 hours.

For those who haven't backed yet, don't fret - the patches are available in the add-ons section at cost.

The patch itself is going to be fully embroidered with an iron-on back so you can attach it to a backpack, jacket, or any other fabric made from denim or cotton. That being said, you can always opt to sew your patch or even glue it with craft glue (E6000 Craft Adhesive recommended), so you can attach it to a phone case or in the middle of your wall or perhaps the inside of your shoe. I'm not your dad - its your patch!

Backers, look for our first Monster Monday next week where I'll be sharing the Ironbite Rat; a creature who's bite can tear through stone and metal alike.

Have a great weekend!

Update 2: We made it!

Dungeoneers,

YOU DID IT! We're funded in less than 48 hours and it's because of you. A sincere thank you to all the backers, new and returning, who believe in the project and want to see more Dungeoneering.

We've got a few stretch goals outlined and we'll see as February progresses how far we get on them, but for now give yourselves a pat on the back because we're making the damn thing(s).
